PRD size limits
Soft warning at 30,000 characters; hard block at 37,000 characters
Spexsure imposes size limits on PRD content to ensure reliable AI processing. A live character counter in the bottom bar of the editor turns amber at the soft limit and red at the hard limit.
The limits
- 30,000 characters — soft warning. You can still proceed, but analysis may miss content near the end of the document.
- 37,000 characters — hard limit. The Analyse button is blocked until you reduce the content.
What to do if your PRD is too long
- Split the PRD by epic or feature area and run each as a separate Spexsure project
- Remove appendices, changelogs, and revision history — they add characters without adding requirements
- Summarise lengthy background sections; the analysis focuses on requirements, not rationale
The 37,000-character hard limit provides a 15% safety buffer below the point at which enrichment becomes unreliable. PRDs near this limit often produce better results when split into two projects.
